Brass and Its Finishes
Brass is a popular material across our lighting collections, valued for both its durability and appearance. Made primarily from copper and zinc, brass offers strong resistance to corrosion and does not rust, making it ideal for long-lasting fittings. Its warm, golden tone adds elegance and sophistication, and it can be enhanced through various finishing techniques. Each finish lends a unique character to the fixture, allowing it to suit different interior styles. Below is an overview of the finishes we offer and how they bring out the best in brass.
Polished Brass – Timeless Shine
Polished brass offers a classic, high-gloss appearance that showcases the brightness of the metal. The surface is polished to a mirror-like shine, then sealed with a clear lacquer that provides UV protection and helps prevent tarnishing. To clean, simply wipe with a soft cloth—abrasive materials should be avoided.
Old Brass – Aged Warmth
This finish creates an aged, lived-in look full of charm and character. Through a chemical ageing process done by hand, the surface takes on warm, honeyed tones with subtle variations that make each piece unique. A clear lacquer is applied to lock in the effect and shield it from early wear. Light dusting with a soft cloth is recommended for upkeep.
Antique Bronze – Organic Patina
This finish is designed to age naturally over time, giving the piece a more authentic, vintage appearance. The surface is gently roughened and treated with patination chemicals to achieve a dark chocolate hue. Unlike other finishes, Antique Bronze is left uncoated, allowing it to continue ageing. For this reason, handling should be kept to a minimum to avoid leaving marks.
Antique Nickel – Refined Heritage
Antique Nickel provides a soft, vintage look with a subtle lustre. Fixtures are first plated with satin nickel, then lightly buffed to highlight contours and detail. The result is a warm, classic finish. Clean occasionally with a silver polish like Silvo, and avoid abrasive products.
Satin Nickel – Contemporary Simplicity
This matte finish adds a modern touch, ideal for clean lines and minimal interiors. The brass is electroplated and then brushed with sisal fibres to create soft, linear texture while retaining a silken appearance. A protective lacquer is applied to maintain the finish. Regular dusting with a soft cloth is all that’s required.
Bright Chrome – Polished Modernity
With a mirror-like shine, Bright Chrome enhances both curved and detailed surfaces. It is electroplated for a resilient, reflective finish that works especially well in humid areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. Its tough surface is easy to maintain with gentle cleaning—avoid harsh materials or abrasive cloths.
Satin Brass – Subtle Sophistication
Satin Brass offers a softer, more contemporary alternative to traditional polished brass. This non-chemical finish is achieved through hand-brushing against an abrasive spinning wheel, giving it a consistent, refined appearance with a muted glow. No lacquer is applied, so minimal handling and gentle cleaning are recommended to preserve its look.
Matt Black – Modern Minimalism
Matt Black presents a sleek and bold finish that complements modern and industrial spaces. This finish is applied using a high-quality powder coating that produces a smooth, non-reflective surface. It is resistant to scratches and fingerprints, making it ideal for high-touch areas. To maintain, simply dust or wipe with a soft, damp cloth—avoid harsh chemicals or abrasives.
Patina Black – Aged Depth
Patina Black offers a softer, weathered black appearance with subtle undertones that vary slightly across the surface. It is achieved through a careful oxidation process that gives the finish a sense of depth and texture. A protective coating helps preserve its aged look. Gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is recommended to maintain the character of the patina.
Antique Black – Distressed Elegance
Antique Black delivers a hand-finished, time-worn appearance that adds depth and warmth to fittings. This finish features uneven highlights and darker accents created through a combination of brushing and chemical treatment. Each piece is unique, with an artisanal feel. It is protected with a light sealant and should be maintained with soft cloth dusting only.
